I created a little hand out poster and started talking to and educating anybody that would listen to me about the need to expand end-of-life options in Oregon.
Then I decided it was time to meet with Senator Arnie Roblan. He was already well aware of the need to have our options expanded. Hearing how I was going to use my funds and seeing my enthusiasm about educating the public he committed to sponsoring an expansion of our death-with-dignity law in 2019.
This gives me approximately one year to educate the state of Oregon about the need for compassionate citizens to voice their support for expanding our end-of-life options. So, I started End Choices, an Oregon nonprofit organization. I will soon be tax-exempt and able to offer receipts for any donations that will help offset our costs for ‘getting the word out’.
End Choices Board of directors includes myself, Derek Humphry (founder of the Hemlock Society and author of best-selling book Final Exit and others. He was also one of the authors of the original Oregon death With Dignity law and worked hard to get that passed) and Sally Boyce (a passionate volunteer whose 80 year old husband was recently on the edge of end-of-life. He is still with us happy, healthy and oh so wiser).
